Ever wondered about Portuguese history?
Back in 1497, during the Age of Discovery, John II was the King of Portugal. His Majesty had strong interests in long-distance maritime travels in search of alternative trade routes to “the Indies”, moved by trade of gold, silver and spices.
The Portuguese had previously began to explore the Atlantic coast of Africa, but precisely on the 8th of July 1497 his Majesty The King sent Vasco da Gama and other Portugal’s most experienced navigators to lead a fleet of four ships in attempt to achieve his dream of reaching India by sailing around Africa.
Vasco da Gama’s fleet arrived in Kappad near Calicut, India on the 20th May 1498. Later, with the return of the fleet to Lisbon, a new direct sailing route with “Asia” was opened which consequently brought many benefits to both countries.
The idea is to bring you towards India but this time by air means. You will fly different legs and simulate historical stops. As a result, you will therefore be challenged to land at different places including islands, which are not only worth to visit by their beautiful landscapes but also by their rather “unusual” approach procedures.
We invite you to participate and have a taste of Portuguese history.
Have fun!
